The Urban Planner, to be based in Maputo City, will contribute to strengthening the local technical team and to the overall implementation of current projects and main activities related to the “Urban Policies and Sustainable Human Settlements” programmatic area, reinforcing relevant capacities in sustainable and resilient urban and territorial development, ensuring that all activities conducted integrates gender sensitivity principles, PSEA, and disability inclusion, leading to safe, inclusive, and accessible reconstruction.
3. SCOPE OF WORK AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, with oversight and support from the Coordinator of the “Urban Policies and Sustainable Human Settlements” Portfolio, the Urban Planner will be responsible for:
• To support the implementation of evidence-based methodologies, contributing to the production, analysis and interpretation of urban data that support strategic decisionmaking for sustainable urban and territorial development.
• Support the development and application of technical and analytical tools to strengthen the capacity to monitor and evaluate urban development, including the implementation of the DEGURBA (Degree of Urbanization) approach.
• Support the implementation of follow-up actions to the Urbanization Policy, including dissemination activities, training of key players and the development of its Action Plan and making sure that all deliverables are designed to be inclusive.
• Organize and deliver training and workshops for municipal technicians, academics and communities, promoting good practices and strengthening institutional capacity for sustainable urban development, ensuring accessibility for all and knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for people with disabilities.
• Support the implementation of pilot projects that promote innovative approaches, including methodologies to support digitalization, strengthening sustainable urban mobility, nature-based solutions and the requalification of human settlements, monitoring compliance with gender-sensitivity, PSEA and disability inclusion.
• Develop technical and methodological materials, such as manuals, guides and reports, to support the dissemination of good practices and the strengthening of institutional capacities in sustainable urban planning, monitoring compliance with gendersensitivity, PSEA and disability inclusion.
• Preparing activity reports and technical documents, providing strategic
recommendations for the implementation of the Urbanization Policy and its
associated instruments.

5. TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS
• Academic background: Degree in Urban Planning or related field.
• Experience: At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in urban planning and development, urban management, human settlements, participatory planning, urban policies, climate and urban resilience or related areas. Experience working with International Development Organizations, NGOs or the United Nations is an advantage.
Language: The candidate must be fluent in written and spoken Portuguese and have a good knowledge of written and spoken English. Local languages are an advantage.
• Computer skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint) and Adobe Package. Solid knowledge of computerized design tools: ArchiCAD (mandatory), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs, and graphics programs such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator are an advantage.
• Others: Willingness to adhere to UN-Habitat’s and WFP’s Codes of Conduct, including strict adherence to PSEA and child protection policies
