Position: Finance Assistant

Location of Work:  Based on Pemba Office, Cabo Delgado Province

Contract Duration: Starting as soon as possible, until 31st of January 2027.

Organization Information and Objective

Peace Winds Japan (Peace Winds) is a Japanese non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the support of people in distress, and threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil. With its headquarters in Japan, currently Peace Winds is operational in many parts of the world.

Since 2019, Peace Winds has been working in Mozambique, providing emergency support, water supply system rehabilitation, health center rehabilitation and livelihood support.

Peace Winds is currently starting a new project. The objective of this project is to expand access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and health services for cholera-affected populations in Nampula Province. It focuses on infrastructure rehabilitation, hygiene kit distribution, and strengthening cholera preparedness and response systems at the community level.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Financial Support: Supporting the Admin/Finance Officer (AFO) in day-to-day financial operations, including the administration of project expenses.
  • Documentation Management: Assisting in the management of payment and procurement documents to ensure all transactions are properly recorded and filed.
  • Administrative Assistance: Supporting office administration and logistics, including the management of office supplies and facilities.
  • Compliance Support: Helping ensure that all financial activities follow Peace Winds Japan’s rules and donors’ reporting requirements.

Tasks in Details:

  • Voucher Preparation: Assisting in preparing payment vouchers, collecting receipts, and ensuring all supporting documents (invoices, quotations) are complete.
  • Salary & Tax Support: Supporting the AFO in processing salary payments for local staff and calculating relevant taxes such as IRPS and INSS.
  • Filing & Archiving: Maintaining a systematic physical and digital filing system for all financial records to prepare for project audits.
  • Procurement Assistance: Participating in market surveys and collecting quotations from suppliers as part of the procurement process.
  • Data Entry: Assisting in the entry of financial data into spreadsheets for the preparation of weekly and monthly financial reports in English.
  • General Support: Carrying out any required tasks and support in consultation with his/her supervisor.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Education: Completion of Grade 12 (High School) is mandatory. Technical certificate in accounting and auditing is a strong advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of proven experience in admin or finance area. Prior experience in working with international NGOs is a strong advantage.
  • Languages: Fluent in oral and written Portuguese. Fluency in English is an advantage
  • IT Skills: Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail)
  • Compliance: Willingness to adhere to Peace Winds Japan’s rules, including PSEA policies. Honest, patient, responsible and in good physical condition to meet the job demands
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to work with local partners and international staff.

Working Hours

  • Working hours: 8:00-17:00 Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • A reasonable degree of flexibility is expected when and where required
