Position Summary

FHI 360 is seeking a Technical Advisor – Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health (MNCH) for the EpiC MNCH+N project in Mozambique. The position will support the implementation of activities aimed at improving maternal, neonatal and child health, immunization and nutrition outcomes in Nampula and Zambezia provinces.

The Technical Advisor will provide technical leadership and supervision for clinical activities at health facility and community levels, working closely with the Ministry of Health, provincial and district authorities, community health workers and other partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and supervision for the implementation and monitoring of MNCH service quality interventions;
  • Strengthen government capacity to conduct MNCH clinical supervision using approved standards and tools;
  • Supervise and coordinate technical project staff and ensure effective collaboration with provincial and district government teams;
  • Serve as the primary technical focal point for provincial MNCH technical working groups;
  • Lead the analysis and synthesis of MNCH monitoring data and recommend programmatic improvements and corrective actions;
  • Contribute to project work plans, quarterly and annual reports, financial reports and other donor-required reports;
  • Collaborate with technical advisors at country and headquarters levels to ensure integrated and effective implementation of project activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a clinical field, Public Health or another relevant discipline;
  • Clinical training, preferably as:
    • Maternal and Child Health Nurse;
    • Obstetrician/Gynecologist;
    • Pediatrician;
    • Neonatal and Child Health Nurse;
  • At least 8 years of experience in MNCH+N and public health programmes;
  • Experience supervising teams and conducting supportive supervision and staff performance evaluations;
  • Proven experience working with the Ministry of Health (MISAU);
  • Strong knowledge of national and provincial health systems, particularly in Zambezia and Nampula;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials and community stakeholders;
  • Fluency in Portuguese;
  • Strong English communication and presentation skills are preferred;
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workload;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and analytical skills.
