JOB OFFER – PROJECT MANAGER, “CASHEW-COFFEE VALUE CHAINS AND LANDSCAPES”
Organization: Nitidæ
Position: Project Manager – Cashew-Coffee Value Chains and Landscapes
Duty Station: Nampula or Maputo, Mozambique
Programme: Green Value for Growth (GV4G)
About Nitidæ
Nitidæ is an international organization based in Lyon, France, specializing in the design and implementation of sustainable rural development projects with strong biodiversity conservation components.
Operating mainly in Africa, Nitidæ pursues a dual objective: protecting the environment while supporting the socio-economic development of local communities and territories.
Its landscape approach examines the interactions between agricultural land use, natural resources, and social organization to promote sustainable development at the territorial level.
Nitidæ currently manages around 30 projects, mainly in Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ghana, Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Cameroon, and Tanzania. Its team comprises approximately 250 staff members, including economists, engineers, agronomists, foresters, geographers, soil carbon specialists, and GIS and remote sensing experts.
Nitidæ in Mozambique
Nitidæ has been operating in Mozambique since 2013 and has established a strong presence in Zambézia Province, particularly around Gilé National Park and the Mount Namuli Key Biodiversity Area (KBA), where it supports sustainable agricultural value chains, notably cashew and coffee, through a landscape-based approach.
More recently, Nitidæ has expanded its activities to Nampula and Manica provinces, which are important production areas for cashew and coffee, respectively.
Its current projects include:
-
ACAMOZ II: Supporting the cashew and macadamia value chains, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD).
-
NAMULI: Supporting the establishment of a community conservation area, funded by LED and Linsi.
-
SATAF: Promoting agroecological practices in coffee and cashew value chains, funded by the European Union.
Nitidæ maintains strong relationships with the Mozambique Institute of Almonds (IAM, IP), the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP), and stakeholders across the cashew and coffee value chains.
Project Background: Green Value for Growth (GV4G)
Green Value for Growth (GV4G) is a five-year, 60-month programme funded by the European Union and the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the Global Gateway initiative.
The programme aims to accelerate Mozambique’s transition towards greener, climate-resilient, and inclusive development by transforming soybean, cashew, and coffee value chains along the Beira and Nacala corridors.
By 2031, GV4G aims to:
-
Mobilize €27.7 million in public and private investment.
-
Support more than 2,500 businesses, cooperatives, and commercial farms.
-
Reach 38,000 smallholder farmers.
-
Sustain 8,000 jobs.
-
Promote sustainable land management practices across nearly 36,000 hectares.
The programme focuses on three main outcomes:
-
Modernizing value chains and restoring sensitive landscapes.
-
Strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs in nature-positive value chains, particularly women and young people.
-
Improving the regulatory, financial, and digital environment for green investment, including traceability, compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and access to finance.
GV4G is implemented by a consortium comprising four partners: TechnoServe, the lead partner hosting the Programme Management Unit; Resilience; Nitidæ; and the Zambezi Valley Development Agency.
Within the consortium, Nitidæ leads the technical work on the cashew value chain, with responsibilities including:
-
Supporting production through action research to promote the agroecological transition of cashew.
-
Strengthening producer organizations.
-
Supporting landscape governance on Mount Namuli and the development of sustainable agroforestry coffee production.
-
Conducting spatial analysis and monitoring deforestation through Nitidæ’s N’Lab.
-
Supporting policy dialogue in the cashew sector.
