Responsibilities:

  • Support with environmental and biodiversity requirements to ensure that construction, commissioning, and start-up activities and the transition to operations fully comply with applicable national, state and local regulatory and lender requirements and the project’s obligations/commitments appearing in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Government Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Lender Environmental and Socioeconomic Management Plan (ESMP) or BOMP, project finance agreements, and other agreements/contracts.
  • Develop and implement biodiversity action plans applying the mitigation hierarchy.
  • Participate on the development and implementation of the Project Biodiversity Offsets Management Plan (BOMP) and associated documents, and the monitoring programs.
  • Assist the Senior Biodiversity Advisor with environmental and biodiversity deliverables and coordinate with the Safety, Security, Health & Environmental (SSH&E) Team.
  • Assist the Senior Biodiversity Advisor in the efforts to identify biodiversity related regulatory approvals, authorizations, permits, and licenses required by the project.
  • Ensure that applicable environmental and biodiversity requirements/standards (both internal and external) are properly integrated into project designs and implementation plans.
  • Support EMML interfaces with Government agencies and external stakeholders (including Lenders) regarding the preparation of the project’s EIA, EMP and BOMP, regulatory compliance issues, and biodiversity related performance/BOMP implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-10 experience of demonstrated broad technical skills in conducting ecological/biodiversity/ecosystem services field and baseline surveys, conducting critical habitat assessments, developing and implementing biodiversity action/management plans; monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem services values; and planning, designing, implementing and monitoring of biodiversity offsets.
  • Strong knowledge of local and international environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and other environmental management systems.
  • Willingness to work in remote or challenging environments.
  • Excellent problem solving, observational and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Proficient technical skills, including, but not limited to, experience using Microsoft Office programs and digital cameras.
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling methods. Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in environmental monitoring tools and software.
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to safety and sustainability.
