The Key Purpose of this role is to safely operate the brew house manual processes, implementation of maintenance tasks, the execution of quality control checks & analyses, and supporting the Process Operator to produce a consistent product at the right quality & optimum cost with minimal impact on the environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and record production processes on shift using the correct tools as per the VPO standards (OWS, Team Rooms, 5S, etc.).

  • Manage waste and co-products on shift.

  • Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Use escalation procedures to ensure that downtimes are reduced.

  • Apply problem solving techniques (e.g. 5Y, quick fix routines etc.) to identify and correct problems.

  • Escalate any identified or unresolved problems to BAM.

  • Support the creation (drafting and documenting) of standard work procedures (including quick fix routines and problems).

  • Be a logical, analytical problem solver who can operate in an unstructured environment.

  • Complete autonomous maintenance tasks problem-solving activities.

  • Support the creation (drafting and documenting) of standard work procedures (including quick fix routines and problems).

  • Perform quality analysis and ensure process quality and productivity is achieved on your shift.

  • Where quality problems have arisen, apply the appropriate problem-solving techniques (e.g., Quick fix routines) for quick resolution.

  • Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that could result in out-of-control process situations.

  • Actively participate in meetings and goal reviews.

  • Utilize the checklist to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities.

  • Make use of relevant communication media (e.g., shift logbook, WhatsApp) to stay informed and inform others of issues.

  • Complete required hand over to incoming shift team members, ensuring the issues relating to plant performance, quality, maintenance is communicated.

  • Drive your development plan.

  • Ensure training bucket compliance and SKAP plan execution.

  • A team player (prepared to communicate, listen and assist).

  • Achievement Drive (improvement, do better than standard or what was done previously, be the best).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Dip/Degree in Food Science/ Biochemistry/ Lab Tech/ Mechanical/Electrical Eng.

  • IBD certification is desirable but not essential.

  • 6 months – 5 years’ experience in a brewing environment or previous experience in a process-controlled manufacturing environment, ideally in food FMCG products.

  • Basic MS office literacy – Proficiency in excel is desirable but no essential.
