Job Summary

The Country Director serves as FH’s chief representative in Mozambique. Provides leadership to and manages all FH programs and staff in Mozambique. Within the framework of the FH Heartbeat Values, is responsible for designing, developing and delivering catalytic solutions that enable children, families and communities to be resilient and flourish. S/he ensures that the delivery of our programs in Mozambique is in line with FH’s organizational strategy and supports the government’s efforts to improve the quality of life for its people. 

Principal Responsibilities

Key Result Area #1: Leadership, Vision, and Staff Development

  • Models a healthy, values-driven organizational culture that fosters a cohesive and effective workforce. 
  • Provides spiritual leadership aligned with Heartbeat Values and cultivates mindsets and behaviors that empower staff. 
  • Builds a learning environment that supports professional and spiritual growth. 
  • Recruits, retains, and develops high-quality talent. 
  • Communicates and advances FH global initiatives in ways aligned with national context.

Key Result Area #2: Strategy Realization

  • Ensures strategic planning and execution align with FH’s global direction. 
  • Develops country operating plans with clear outcomes and objectives in collaboration with senior leadership. 
  • Secures necessary resources to deliver the operating plan. 
  • Aligns annual work plans and OKRs with organizational targets. 
  • Positions FH for long-term impact through effective investment of time and resources.

Key Result Area #3: Business Development

  • Oversees ethical, sustainable portfolio growth aligned with mission and operational capacity. 
  • Identifies priority funding opportunities and innovative approaches to strengthen impact. 
  • Ensures a strong value proposition for donors and partners. 
  • Leads post-submission reviews to improve proposal strategies and future success rates.

Key Result Area #4: Programmatic and Administrative Excellence

  • Ensures high-quality project execution that fulfills FH’s commitments and complies with donor and organizational standards. 
  • Guarantees timely, on-budget delivery of objectives and outcomes. 
  • Strengthens performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems. 
  • Ensures compliance with all legal, regulatory, and partnership requirements. 
  • Facilitates strong collaboration between units and partners, integrating program performance with financial accountability.

Key Result Area #5: Representation and Partnerships

  • Promotes and develops value-added partnerships and collaboration with external stakeholders.
  • Monitors trends and priorities within Mozambique’s development context by actively engaging in sector forums. 
  • Strengthens FH’s brand and visibility with donors, partners, and the public. 
  • Builds and maintains strategic relationships that advance FH’s priorities and funding opportunities across agencies, foundations, businesses, churches, Affiliates, and alliances.

Key Result Area #6: Safeguarding and Risk Management

  • Protects staff, community partners, assets, and organizational reputation. 
  • Ensures robust safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults across all activities. 
  • Establishes and implements systems and procedures to enhance safety and security. 
  • Identifies and mitigates organizational risks, initiating corrective actions where gaps increase vulnerability. 

Other duties as assigned. 

 Experience 

  • At least 10 years of experience in relief and development or relevant industry. 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as a senior-level manager overseeing complex, multi-sector relief and development programs; experience in overseeing intercultural complex, matrixed organization. 
  • Experience in Mozambique is highly preferred. 
  • Prior experience in a complex, matrixed organization, with the ability to scale processes in a global, professional, service organization. 
  • Non-profit ministry experience a plus. 

Education/Certifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree, in International Development, Business Administration or related field.  
  • Master’s degree in international development, Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
