Summary:
Carry out technical support activities for drilling operations, ensuring the correct handling, labelling, measurement and organisation of core samples, as well as the quality of data collection in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Mark core blocks (depth intervals) on the core boxes, ensuring the boreholes are correctly identified.
- Measure and record core recovery per run.
- Calculate and record the RQD (Rock Quality Designation) in accordance with established procedures.
- Ensure the correct organisation, alignment and sequence of core samples in the core boxes.
- Identify and report recovery losses, crushed zones or disturbances in the core samples.
- Assist geologists with geological and geotechnical logging activities.
- Prepare core samples for sampling, including marking, cutting and labelling.
- Ensure compliance with QA/QC (Quality Assurance / Quality Control) procedures in the handling and recording of data.
- Correctly record field data on appropriate forms and/or digital systems.
- Take photographs of core samples, ensuring quality, scale and proper identification.
- Maintain the organisation of the core shed and work areas.
- Assist in the preparation of drilling areas, where necessary.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents and accidents.
- Strictly comply with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures.
Qualifications:
- Technical or secondary education in Geology, Mining or related fields.
- At least one year’s experience in mineral exploration projects.
- Experience in handling drill cores.
- Basic knowledge of:
- Core recovery
- RQD
- Sampling procedures
- Experience in diamond drilling would be an advantage.
- A valid driving licence (Category B) would be an advantage
- Ability to work in remote locations and field conditions.
