Ecolog Mozambique Lda, is hiring for its operations in Cabo Delgado (1) HSE Officer for Waste Management.

Job Summary:

The HSE Officer – Waste Management is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs related to the collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The role works closely with operational teams to ensure safe practices, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection in all waste management activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment and Management

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all waste management operations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk mitigation measures and emergency response plans.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Ensure full compliance with Mozambican legislation and relevant international standards related to waste management.

Training and Awareness

  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs focused on safe work practices and environmental best practices.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and environmental responsibility among employees and contractors.

Incident Investigation

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses related to waste management activities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.

Waste Audits and Inspections

  • Perform regular audits and inspections of waste management processes, sites, and facilities.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to identify non-conformities and improvement opportunities.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HSE and environmental records.
  • Prepare and submit HSE reports to clients, management, and regulatory authorities as required.

Emergency Response Planning

  • Develop, review, and update emergency response plans for hazardous waste-related incidents.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities with local authorities and emergency services when required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Certification from a recognized HSE body (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years proven experience in HSE roles, preferably within waste management operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Mozambican and international regulations related to hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence personnel at all organizational levels.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluent written and spoken Portuguese and English.
  • Basic intermediate proficiency in Swahili is an advantage.
