Ecolog Mozambique Lda, is hiring for its operations in Cabo Delgado (1) HSE Officer for Waste Management.
Job Summary:
The HSE Officer – Waste Management is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs related to the collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The role works closely with operational teams to ensure safe practices, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection in all waste management activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment and Management
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all waste management operations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor risk mitigation measures and emergency response plans.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Ensure full compliance with Mozambican legislation and relevant international standards related to waste management.
Training and Awareness
- Develop and deliver HSE training programs focused on safe work practices and environmental best practices.
- Promote a strong safety culture and environmental responsibility among employees and contractors.
Incident Investigation
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses related to waste management activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
Waste Audits and Inspections
- Perform regular audits and inspections of waste management processes, sites, and facilities.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to identify non-conformities and improvement opportunities.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date HSE and environmental records.
- Prepare and submit HSE reports to clients, management, and regulatory authorities as required.
Emergency Response Planning
- Develop, review, and update emergency response plans for hazardous waste-related incidents.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities with local authorities and emergency services when required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
- Certification from a recognized HSE body (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent) is mandatory.
- Minimum of 2–5 years proven experience in HSE roles, preferably within waste management operations.
- Strong knowledge of Mozambican and international regulations related to hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and influence personnel at all organizational levels.
Language Requirements:
- Fluent written and spoken Portuguese and English.
- Basic intermediate proficiency in Swahili is an advantage.
