Job Summary

  • To deliver a highly efficient service and support functions to the Retail and Corporate Business Units, to ensure a smooth client experience during the lifecycle of each payment;
  • To ensure delivery within the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA) for In Country or External;
  • To perform Transaction processing and monitoring in accordance with Absa Group requirements.

Job Description

Front office support – provide support to the Front Office (Coverage).

Correspondent Banks – queries, charges settlement.

Ensure adherence to agreed Service Level agreements with Stakeholders

Ensure adherence to agreed Turn Around Times.

Ensure that information/notification reach the correct person in time.

Assist internal clients in clarifying technical questions related to international payments.

Document checking – Review payments support documentation according to country exchange regulation and other relevant norms and controls. 
Verify and Authorize payments in the systems 
Process payments in the system as a backup
Settlement of correspondent bank charges
Preparation/answering correspondent bank query messages 
Comply with current policies (AML), relating to International Payments and foreign exchange legislation in payments processed.
Monitor payments systems issues make the necessary engagement with local IT and Center, escalate when necessary 
Share experiences and technical knowledge with other colleagues for the good execution of the Bank’s business
Control Environment – ensure all payments comply with regulatory and legal requirements. Log all risk and loss events as they occur because of fraud or error highlighted in the department. First, escalate to line manager and then contact Operational Risk Management (ORM). 
Accounting – regularize in the system any exceptions derived from daily reconciliations in accounts associated with international payments transactions
Complete all relevant compliance training and be conversant with the relevant regulations requirements that have impact on day-to-day functions
Provide all requested Management Information (MI) and Central Bank Regulatory reporting 
Comply with prescribed policies, processes, and procedures to prevent any financial loss. 
Contribute to the mitigation of Operational Risks identified by Internal/External Audit and Management Assurance as well as in house Conformance reviews. 
Adhere to 100% to the anti-money laundering sanctions and policies and management of the business continuity of the ABM.
Assist with testing of change/projects 
Propose practical solutions to improve the payments process
Set own personal development goal objectives and complete all required actions to achieve
Continuously look for opportunities to further develop own skills and expand knowledge base.
Build and manage relationships with various levels of stakeholders across a diverse population, across multiple countries and regions.

Manage risk and control effectively by applying applicable risk frameworks and embedding a positive risk culture
Understand and implement the EMRF – Enterprise Management Risk Framework
Understanding of own role in the end-to-end processes in which you play a part, including applicable risks and controls.
Adhere to Absa policies and procedures applicable to own role, demonstrating sound judgement and responsible risk management.
Report all risk events / incidents / issues using the defined process for your business area and help to understand why these happened and how to prevent them in future. Proactively look for ways to improve the control environment by considering what could go wrong in the processes you operate and how errors could be prevented.
