Position Summary
Good Neighbors Mozambique is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer to support the planning, implementation, and supervision of infrastructure activities in the following communities:
- Chichongue > Calanga > Manhiça
- Dzonguene > Ilha Josina Machel > Manhiça
- Tlavene > Mabalne
- Funguane > Chibuto
The Junior Civil Engineer will support technical design, construction supervision, and quality control of facilities, including wss, sanitation & health infrastructure, and general buildings, while ensuring compliance with national standards and GN guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, design, and supervision of building infrastructure projects (latrines, water points, handwashing facilities, drainage systems, school & health center buildings etc.).
- Conduct site assessments, measurements, and basic technical surveys in target project areas.
- Supervise construction works and ensure quality, safety, and adherence to approved designs and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with contractors, community committees, and local authorities during implementation.
- Monitor progress of works, document activities, and contribute to technical and progress reports.
- Ensure accountability, proper use of materials, and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Mid-Level Technical Professional Qualification in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Training or coursework related to WASH infrastructure is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of basic AutoCAD or similar software is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Basic understanding of building infrastructure standards and construction practices.
- Ability to read, interpret and develop simple technical drawings and bills of quantities.
- Knowledge of construction supervision, quality control, and site management.
- Good reporting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Portuguese, Changana and English is required.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 – 5 years of experience in civil works or WASH-related projects, preferably with an NGO or development organization.
- Experience working in rural or community-based settings is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Mozambican construction and WASH standards is desirable.
