Summary:

The purpose of the Mechanical Fitter role is to ensure all mechanical plant maintenance activities are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner in line with the approved schedule/strategy and to ensure all issues, hazards and incidents are reported to supervision in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct take 5 and job hazard analysis assessments on work activities as required.
  • Report all Hazards, Incidents and Near Misses in line with Company policies and procedures.
  • Always ensure own and others fitness for work and report non-compliance as soon as practicable.
  • Undertake daily work area inspections and report faults / issues to Maintenance Supervisor immediately.
  • Participate in shift handover activities as required.
  • Contribute to pre-start and toolbox sessions as required.
  • Contribute to the development of SWI’s as required.
  • Enter and work within confined spaces and work safely at heights as required.
  • Raise work orders in the Pronto Maintenance module as required.
  • Review SWI’s daily prior to undertaking a task and follow accordingly.
  • Undertaking condition monitoring activities – e.g., oil analysis, thermography, vibration analysis, equipment alignment and non-destructive testing on a range of fixed plant equipment as required.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner and keep supervision informed of findings.
  • Carrying out inspections on process plant equipment and report key findings and recommendations.
  • Perform component change-out activities as required.
  • Inspect and repair submersible, centrifugal, sump and slurry pumps as required
  • Strip and rebuild crushers as required.
  • Inspect and resolve motor, pump, conveyor and hydraulic problems.
  • Review and interpret mechanical schematics to facilitate maintenance activities.
  • Conduct lubrication activities on plant and equipment as required – e.g., gears, shafts and bearings.
  • Fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components as required.
  • Use hand tools and rigging equipment as required and return to stores on completion.
  • Enter and work within confined spaces and work safely at heights as required.
  • Conduct pre-start and post-operational checks on all plant and equipment.
  • Report all maintenance issues to Maintenance Supervisor as soon as practicable to rectify in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to root-cause analysis reviews as required.
  • Work collaboratively with operations to ensure the efficient operation of the plant.
  • Actively pursue training opportunities in line with defined Mechanical Technician competencies.
  • Create and maintain a high standard of plant, workshop and site housekeeping.
  • Adhere to all company values, policies and procedures and encourage others do the same.
  • Teamwork, as a mechanical fitter may be required to collaborate with other fitters on larger projects.
  • Problem-solving skills, which enable a mechanical fitter to solve and repair system issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Adequate knowledge of system structures and how to troubleshoot systems by utilizing the knowledge of how the system was designed to perform.
  • Ensure that any Routable or Maintenance spares are cleaned, documented and communicated to the planning department, ready for repair on or off site.
  • Ensure that any Routable or Maintenance spares that are repaired on site, by you, have been checked and signed off as ready, by yourself and your supervisor, to be put back in the warehouse and the planning team has been notified.
  • Positively contribute to a culture of Continuous Improvement within the Maintenance Department by putting forward all ideas for improvement. Striving to increase production and reduce time and maintenance costs.

Qualifications:

  • Mandatory Mechanical Trade Qualification.
  • Minimum 2-year post trade mechanical maintenance experience in a mineral processing environment.
  • Proven exposure to and use of safe systems of work – e.g., risk management, incident reporting.
  • Confined space and working at heights tickets.
  • Sound Portuguese literacy skills – verbal and written.
  • English literacy skills highly desirable.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work according to production schedules.
  • Basic computer literacy is desirable.
  • Poly Welding experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and share information as required.
