Job Description

The MEAL Specialist is responsible for coordinating all internal and external MPA&E activities, allowing the project to maintain its strategic objectives and the actions to contribute to the achievement of the desired results efficiently.  

The selected candidate will be based in Lichinga, Mozambique, and will report to the Project Manager at CIMMYT. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Lead a group of researchers and technicians through the development of the research project to guarantee the correct execution and timing of the project. 
  • Evaluate and analyze the data collected in the research project to guarantee its accuracy and relevance to the project outline. 
  • Design and develop an experiment according to a variety of methods, availability and quantity of resources to contribute to the main research project. 
  • Analyze and evaluate facts and new experiment’s findings to contribute to the research analysis and publication results. 
  • Manage research data generated from field trials to maintain an accurate and updated database system. 
  • Produce progress reports of the experiments on a regular basis to contribute to the data collection. 
  • Interpret and prepare data to guarantee the publication in a peer review journal. 
  • Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures. 
  • Support the definition and improvement of indicators and targets appropriate to the monitoring and evaluation of the project’s performance at the operational and results level 
  • Lead the development of the M&E plan and system (including processes, tools, procedures and templates) that allow for the easy collection and analysis of data related to the indicators within the Results Matrices 
  • Ensure the implementation of tools for systematizing the monitoring process of project indicators and targets, allowing quick access by the different stakeholders to historical and aggregated information of the indicators 
  • Create an institutional database of M&E and Dash Boards for easy viewing and monitoring of progress 
  • To design a knowledge management strategy aimed at organizational learning, to extract relevant learning that can serve as a basis for improving the institution’s projects and/or activities 

Requirements

What are we looking for? 

 The selected candidate should have the following skills, knowledge, experience, and personal characteristics:  

  • Master’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, Economics or related area.  
  • Advance level of MS Office. 
  • Advance knowledge of database work. 
  • At least 6 years of experience required in a similar position. 
  • Advanced statistical research analysis. 
  • Scientific papers production and publishing. 
  • Fluent in official language according to country location.(Portuguese)
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.
