Role purpose: Vodacom is looking for a highly motivated engineer to join the cloud infrastructure team. This team is Responsible to design, implement and maintain the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure according to rigorous standards and procedures. We are looking for an individual capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision, capable of building complex systems while ensuring performance, cost effectiveness, reliability, scalability, security, automation and documentation. As a senior engineer, this role requires mentoring less experienced team members, advocate the cloud services within the company, and collaborate with different internal and external work streams to ensure projects and strategic initiatives deliver business value.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership
• Cloud Architecture Design: Be to design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions based on the organization’s needs. This includes defining cloud architecture, selecting appropriate cloud service providers, and configuring cloud services to support business applications.
• Cloud Optimization: Be responsible for optimizing cloud performance and reliability by identifying and resolving issues. This includes monitoring cloud performance, analyzing cloud traffic, and implementing solutions to optimize cloud performance.
• Cloud Documentation: Be responsible for documenting cloud infrastructure solutions, including cloud architecture diagrams, configurations, and policies.
• Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders and build strong relationships to drive infrastructure projects and key initiatives as per the roadmap.
• Project Management: Be responsible for managing cloud projects from start to finish, including project planning, resource allocation, and project execution. Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
• Technical Expertise: must have extensive experience designing and implementing cloud-based solutions using public cloud service providers such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. They must also have in-depth knowledge of cloud architecture, cloud security, and cloud automation
• Leadership Skills: Must have strong leadership skills to manage teams of engineers and developers responsible for cloud infrastructure. They must also be able to collaborate effectively with other departments, such as DevOps and Security teams.
• Business Acumen: Must have a solid understanding of the organization’s business needs and how they can be supported by cloud-based solutions. They must be able to identify opportunities to leverage cloud technologies to drive business value and align cloud infrastructure strategies with overall business objectives
Must have technical / professional qualifications
• Degree in Computer Science or similar
• AWS SysOps/Solutions Architect Associate or equivalent are highly desirable.
