JOB PURPOSE

To ensure the proper installation, maintenance and repair of all water supply, drainage, and sanitation systems within the compound’s houses and shared facilities. This includes addressing leaks, clogged drains, faulty fixtures, and water pressure issues in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor plumbing. The assignment is also responsible for conducting routine inspections, performing preventive maintenance, and responding promptly to plumbing and other emergencies to minimize disruptions for residents. Additionally, the role requires maintaining pumping systems, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations, and coordinating with accommodation management and other maintenance staff to ensure reliable and efficient plumbing services throughout the compound.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

 

1. Install, maintain, and repair all types of plumbing systems within the residential compound, including water supply, drainage and sewage systems.
2. Install, replace, and repair plumbing fixtures such as taps, sinks, showers, toilets, bathtubs, and other related components in residential units and common areas.
3. Inspect, troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems to detect leaks, blockages and malfunctions, including early anticipation of problems and propose solution.
4. Perform regular maintenance tasks, including cleaning and servicing water heaters, water pumps, and other plumbing-related equipment.
5. Coordinate with the other maintenance staff to ensure the efficient operation of integrated systems (e.g., water pumps and heating systems).
6. Perform pipefitting tasks, including cutting and joining pipes of various sizes and materials.
7. Carry out preventive maintenance on plumbing systems to ensure their efficient performance and reduce the risk of emergencies.
8. Respond to emergency plumbing issues such as pipe bursts, water leaks or blockages affecting residential units or common areas.
9. Assist in estimating material requirements for plumbing-related projects, including repairs, replacements and upgrades.
10. Maintain a stock of plumbing tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring the inventory is sufficient, well-maintained, and properly stored.

11. Carry out general maintenance tasks, such as small repairs in other building systems (e.g., carpentry, minor electrical work, painting) as required.
12. Assist with the procurement and delivery of plumbing materials and tools, liaising with suppliers as needed, including advising on cost estimations
13. Maintain detailed records of plumbing maintenance activities, repairs completed, and inventory usage.
14. Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards and safe work practices during all tasks.
15. Perform any other related duties as may be assigned to support the proper functioning and upkeep of the residential compound.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

Education: Completion of secondary school education.
Experience: Three or more years of related experience in site maintenance and basic record keeping. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to install, connect, and repair water and drainage systems.

  • Skills in soldering or welding techniques.

  • Experience using plumbing tools like pipe cutters, plungers and threaders.

  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment and supplies in good working order. 

  • Knowledge of safety precautions. 

  • High sense of responsibility and punctuality. 

  • Honesty and integrity. 

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. 

  • Ability to work in a team. 

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions. 

Language: Fluency in both written and oral communication in Portuguese, English will be an added advantage.
