We are looking for a dedicated WASH Assistant Officer to join our team in Mozambique. The WASH Officer will be responsible for leading and implementing activities related to Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) within the WASH program in the Chichongue > Calanga > Manhiça; Dzonguene > Ilha Josina Machel > Manhiça; Tlavene > Mabalne and Funguane > Chibuto communities. The incumbent will coordinate and conduct Menstrual Hygiene Campaigns, focusing on educating adolescent girls and boys about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and gender-sensitive awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement menstrual hygiene campaigns and community awareness sessions in the target communities.
  • Facilitate training workshops for adolescents and women’s groups on the production of reusable/washable sanitary pads using locally available materials.
  • Ensure that menstrual hygiene messages are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and aligned with national WASH and health education guidelines.
  • Integrate menstrual hygiene education into school-based WASH activities in collaboration with teachers and school management committees.
  • Monitor the distribution and use of hygiene materials, and ensure quality and accountability in all community trainings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Community Development, Social Work, or related field.
  • Additional certification in WASH, Menstrual Hygiene Management, or Health Promotion is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of WASH principles, menstrual health, and gender equity.
  • Ability to develop and deliver interactive training materials and demonstrations.
  • Knowledge of participatory approaches and community engagement techniques.
  • Good reporting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Changane and Portuguese (required) and English (advantage).

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in implementing community-based WASH or health education projects, preferably with an NGO.will be advantage.
  • Proven experience in menstrual hygiene promotion, community mobilization, and training facilitation.
  • Experience working in rural and community settings, preferably in Mozambique or similar contexts.
