Activities
- Provide technical support to Project Contract Services regarding letters, claims, and disputes. During site activities, prevent Contractor stand-by or delays by responding promptly to site queries and unexpected technical issues. Oversee rectification of punch list items, completion of on-site tests, and erection of all discipline-related equipment.
- Respond to all site Technical Queries, Deviation Requests, Concession Requests, Non-Conformance Reports, and Waiver Requests.
- Propose alternative on-site solutions to expedite work activities, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
- Follow up and work transversally to support construction activities, providing assistance for all civil and structural site activities.
- Participate in all ad-hoc on-site meetings related to the discipline, as well as weekly discipline meetings with the Contractor counterpart.
- Report any deviations to management that could impact asset integrity and/or schedule.
- When required, participate in the evaluation of work progress claims submitted by the main EPC Contractor.
- Support TEPMA1 construction team members in developing tools to facilitate monitoring of work site progress.
- Participate in the follow-up of the as-built documentation process.
- Ensure adherence to all Project HSE requirements and actively contribute to developing a strong safety culture, making safety an integral part of all work performed.
- Interface with Contractor Civil and Structural engineering teams to ensure coordination and resolution of all necessary issues.
- Identify opportunities and risks, along with mitigation measures.
- Oversee and coordinate Contractor site activities, focusing on civil and structural construction, while maintaining familiarity with multidisciplinary construction execution.
- Assist the Civil and Structural Lead in all aspects. Context and environment
- The project entity is a multinational joint venture with a significant social performance component and is project-financed by high-profile lenders.
- Afungi Site is extremely remote in Northern Mozambique, with unreliable infrastructure and communications.
- The site is subject to mitigation measures for malaria and general security risks.
- Rotational position (4 weeks on 4 weeks off) Accountabilities
- The Civil/Structural Engineer is responsible for the integrity of construction assets within their discipline up to mechanical completion and pre-commissioning.
- The Civil/Structural Engineer’s scope of responsibility covers all Mozambique LNG site matters related to their discipline. Qualifications/Experience required
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills required; Portuguese or French is an advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in civil and structural works in industrial plants, with solid knowledge of relevant specifications, technical codes, and standards.
- Strong understanding of project execution best practices, gained through experience on projects of similar size.
- Analytical, rigorous, results-oriented, and adaptable to changing constraints.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills in an international environment
- Understanding of critical success factors for large, complex projects: safety, environmental, work organization, cost, schedule, quality, organizational competency, and reputational risk.
- Strong HSE culture and safety leadership, with effective communication and leadership skills to influence critical decisions.
