FUNCTION
Reporting directly to the E&S Deputy Director, will be responsible for providing technical expertise in environmental management to support company operations; developing and implementing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable E&S requirements, including company, lender and regulatory standards; supporting efforts to obtain environmental licences for the project and communicating progress to relevant stakeholders, including government authorities, lenders and corporate representatives; overseeing consultants preparing environmental studies, including specialist studies and baseline surveys; leading and coordinating the work of the external E&S consultant, with a particular focus on environmental studies; coordinating training sessions and raising awareness among project personnel regarding the ESIA process and environmental regulatory requirements; participating in engagements with lenders, regulatory authorities and other external entities, documenting communications related to environmental and regulatory compliance; leading the development and implementation of the project’s Environmental Management System; acting as the operational lead for the implementation of the ESIA process, including day-to-day management and interfacing with ESIA contractor(s), as well as coordinating the preparation of agendas, budgets and logistics for ESIA-related activities (e.g. public consultation meetings, mobilisation of consultants and regulatory authorities to the project site and other required locations), as required; supporting the preparation and management of contracts with suppliers and consultants for the ESIA process and routine environmental compliance activities; and collaborating with ESIA contractors and company management to plan, execute and monitor progress in the project’s environmental licensing processes.

Requisitos

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, Biology or a related field;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ environmental experience, with a thorough working knowledge of renewable energy, preferably hydroelectricity, including hydroelectric dam processes and relevant regulations;
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental approvals and permitting, environmental compliance monitoring and reporting;
  • Experience working on projects seeking project finance and required to comply with international E&S standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with a high level of problem-solving ability;
  • Ability to work professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to evaluating and driving process improvements;
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments and with multi-disciplinary professionals, particularly on construction projects;
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory; working knowledge of French is an advantage.
