JOB PURPOSE

Sasol is seeking a Facilities Engineer II to manage, deliver and provide assurance for plant support engineering projects, engineering studies and technical engineering support to operating and development assets.

The Facilities Engineer II will be responsible for developing engineering scopes for projects through the Assess, Select, Define and Execute phases, through construction, commissioning, successful start-up and handover to Operations.

The role is accountable for the methodology, quality plans and delivery of Facilities Engineering within approved project cost and schedule requirements.

The Facilities Engineer II will also provide technical engineering support, including troubleshooting and optimisation, to operated assets and will provide specialist engineering expertise across disciplines such as Process, Safety, Electrical, Instrumentation, Rotating Machinery, Subsea Architecture and Flow Assurance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Achieve individual delivery targets related to production, projects, yield and availability;
  • Integrate technical activities, team members, stakeholders and interfaces with other disciplines;
  • Provide input and support for integrated engineering discipline plans;
  • Develop and implement functional, professional, technical and operational standards;
  • Manage Facilities Engineering project scopes and obtain stakeholder agreement on scope changes and proposed solutions;
  • Provide specialist engineering resources for the preparation and approval of Scopes of Service, including contracting strategy, scope definition, bid evaluations and contractor management;
  • Ensure Technical Track Quality Management is implemented across projects;
  • Develop and facilitate engineering discipline quality plans, including hold points for each IEPMS phase;
  • Ensure Technical Track Risk Management is implemented across projects;
  • Identify, quantify, assess and mitigate new technical risks;
  • Manage engineering service providers, including engineering consultancies and contractors;
  • Ensure the technical definition, integrity, planning, cost and safe delivery of engineering activities;
  • Support the integration of expertise from engineering contractors, consultants and the Mozambique Gas Projects (MGP) team;
  • Participate in projects from conceptual studies and FEED through detailed engineering, commissioning, start-up and handover;
  • Support plant guarantee performance runs and successful project completion.

PROJECT SCOPE

The Facilities Engineer II will support Regional Operations and Asset Services – Mozambique (ROAS Mozambique) projects in accordance with the Integrated Exploration and Production Management System (IEPMS).

Small onshore projects, classified as Tier 4 and Tier 5, will be taken through all project phases by the Facilities Engineering team, with resource and execution support from the MGP team.

For larger onshore projects, classified as Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3, the Define and Execute phases will be completed by the MGP team.

FORMAL EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Civil Engineering;
  • Chemical Engineering;
  • Electrical Engineering;
  • Mechanical Engineering;
  • Instrumentation Engineering;
  • Or another relevant Engineering discipline.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Candidates should have a proven track record in:

  • Project feasibility;
  • Front-End Engineering Design (FEED);
  • Detailed Engineering Design;
  • Project execution within the Oil & Gas industry;
  • Conceptual design for exploration and production development projects;
  • Development of phased investment programmes for oil and gas resources;
  • Operations and maintenance of oil and gas production facilities;
  • Management of engineering service providers, consultancies and engineering contractors;
  • Cost, schedule and quality control;
  • CAPEX and OPEX estimation;
  • Working within partnership or Joint Venture (JV) operations.

OIL & GAS KNOWLEDGE

The candidate should have experience working with multidisciplinary upstream Oil & Gas teams, including:

  • Exploration;
  • Geology;
  • Petroleum Engineering;
  • Reservoir Engineering;
  • Well Engineering;
  • Drilling.

A strong understanding of the roles, responsibilities and contributions of these disciplines is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • In-depth knowledge of engineering codes and standards relevant to the Exploration & Production (E&P) industry;
  • Proven experience in engineering project management;
  • Strong experience managing engineering contractors and consultants;
  • Experience in project cost, schedule and quality management;
  • Ability to work effectively within integrated and multidisciplinary teams;
  • Willingness to undertake international business travel;
  • Ability to work overseas for extended periods.
