ACTED PSEAH Policy:

The REACH Junior Data Analyst has the responsibility to adhere to the PSEAH Policy (Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment). The REACH Junior Data Analyst has an obligation to complete all mandatory training related to the Code of Conduct and the PSEA policy and report any safeguarding concern such as breaches of organizational policies or codes of conduct according to ACTED’s procedures. The REACH Junior Data Analyst carries out work duties in a way that does not harm children, vulnerable adults or other staff or volunteers.

BACKGROUND ON IMPACT INITIATIVES AND REACH

IMPACT Initiatives is a humanitarian NGO, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization manages several initiatives, including the REACH Initiative. The IMPACT team comprises specialists in data collection, management and analysis, GIS and remote sensing. IMPACT was launched at the initiative of ACTED, an international NGO with headquarters based in Paris and presence in thirty countries. The two organizations have a strong complementarity formalized in a global partnership, which allows IMPACT to benefit from ACTED’s operational support in its fields of intervention.

Job Purpose

The REACH Junior Data Analyst will support the day-to-day analytical support to REACH assessment and information management activities in Cabo Delgado and the northernmost districts of Nampula. The role will focus on supporting Kobo coding, data quality assurance, data cleaning and process and data visualisation.

Objectives

The REACH Junior Data Analyst (JDA) will support the REACH GIS / Data Analyst in the practical implementation of assessment and analysis activities.

Under the authority of the MCR, management of the GIS / Data Analyst and guidance of the SAOs, the REACH JDA is responsible for supporting of:

• Kobo tool coding
• Data quality tracking
• Data cleaning and processing
• Production of data visualisations

Objective 1: Quantitative Data Processing & Management, Statistics.

The JDA should be able to work with the basic concepts of data processing and cleaning, demonstrates an understanding of when and why data transformations are necessary, demonstrates an understanding of techniques to clean and process data, and show understanding of the most common data processing tasks in tools like Excel with guidance, and have a basic understanding of how to handle missing data and outliers.

They should also support analysis using basic understanding of statistical concepts, including sampling foundation and central tendency and dispersion (mean, median, mode, standard deviations)); and Basic understanding of key sampling concepts.

Objective 2: Responsible Data Management

The JDA should demonstrate basic awareness of data privacy and ethical considerations in data collection and Analysis.

Objective 3: Support Data Collection

The JDA will have a basic familiarity with the implementation of mobile data collection, can design a simple form using Kobo Toolbox web interface with guidance.

Objective 4: Data Visualisation Software

The JDA will create basic data visualizations autonomously using tools such as Excel, can maintain basic static dashboards with guidance.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

The Jr Data Analyst is responsible for supporting the following with guidance from the Data / GIS Analyst:

RESEARCH CYCLE MANAGEMENT

• Research planning and design through leading on sampling design and in coordination with relevant assessment and GIS staff construct quantitative sample;
• Providing training on data cleaning and management techniques;
• Overseeing data analysis set-up (specifically conducted in the R environment).

DATA MANAGEMENT

• Data management, cleaning and analysis including monitoring of the accuracy of data collected, cross-checking data collected in the field;
• Learning to use R-based systems to maintain of data management and analysis, serving as the focal point for statistical analysis and quantitative reporting;
• Conducting basic checks in Excel and learning to develop cleaning and analysis (descriptive, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression analyses) scripts in R;
• Contributing to the automatization of data analysis

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

• Developing information products and dashboards with the collected data, with support from the Data / GIS Analyst;
• Providing information management support to other team members, or humanitarian stakeholders;
• Other tasks falling within their functions as requested by supervisors.

The Jnr Data Analyst will maintain the strictest confidentiality on all data collected and related processes, ensuring full compliance with IMPACT’s data protection policy and SOPs. They will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of any information and data belonging to IMPACT and its partners or collected during their assignment with IMPACT.

REQUIREMENTS

Academic Qualifications

• University degree or technical diploma in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Management, Geography, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Humanitarian Action or another relevant field;
• Equivalent professional experience may be considered where appropriate;
• Additional training in data analysis, information management, monitoring and evaluation or related subjects is an advantage.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 1 to 2 years of relevant professional experience in data management, information management, monitoring and evaluation, research, field assessments, humanitarian response or development programming;
• Experience supporting data collection, data cleaning and quantitative analysis is highly desirable;
• Previous experience working with NGOs, humanitarian actors or research organisations is considered an asset;
• Previous experience in Cabo Delgado, Nampula or other emergency response environments is advantageous.

Skills

• Research skills Proficiency and proven experience with research methods, including both quantitative and qualitative research. Excellent analytical skills;
• Statistical skills Strong statistical and analytical skills including correlation and regression analysis
• Software skills Advanced knowledge of R, STATA, Python or equivalent statistical software (with a willingness to learn R). Knowledge of ArcGIS or Power Bi an advantage;
• Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with enumerators, field teams, partner focal points and supervisors. Ability to prepare clear notes, trackers and field updates is required.
• Organisation and attention to detail: Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Multi-tasking skills: Ability to manage multiple practical tasks at the same time and work under tight deadlines in a fast-moving emergency response environment.
• Level of independence: Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while proactively flagging challenges, delays, data collection issues or support needs to the SAO and Assessment Officers.
• Cross-cultural work environment: Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multilingual environment, with flexibility, diplomacy and respect for humanitarian principles.
• Experience in the geographical area: Previous experience working in Cabo Delgado, Nampula or other areas affected by displacement, conflict or natural hazards in Mozambique is strongly desirable.
• Language skills: Fluency in Portuguese is required. Good working knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Cabo Delgado and/or northern Nampula is a strong asset.
